For many American Seventh-day Adventists, communion is the day to be “out of town”. It is the convenient time to miss. The service goes long, the kids are restless, and it is difficult to sit through for some. But for many, the reason to miss is foot washing. I have had people tell me they will not become SDA because of footwashing. “It is too gross and awkward they say.” The fact is, it always has been, it always will be, and furthermore it is supposed to be! Just read John 13. It is not meant to be comfortable.
